Best Babies Prenatal Program

The free registered program is for pregnant women needing extra support due to limited resources, isolation and/or health issues. You can attend until your infant reaches 6 weeks of age. ENHS helps in delivering the program to 2 locations weekly- at Esquimalt Neighbourhood House at 511 Constance Avenue, and at the WestShore Public Health Unit in the Child and Family Community Building on Wale Road in Colwood. Lunch is provided at both groups.

The Best Babies services are offered through a team of professionals including a VIHA Public Health Nurse, VIHA Dietitian, and the ENHS Program Support and Outreach Worker.

The services include:

  • Lunch and Cooking demonstrations
  • Nutrition education
  • Pre and post natal education
  • Prenatal vitamins
  • Food Vouchers at attendance
  • Connections to VIHA and other community resources

The ENHS Best Babies worker can meet with participants individually at their home, at ENHS or in the Westshore to provide supportive counseling, information and referral to other community organization. The worker can help participants to:

  • Identify goals for the pregnancy
  • Develop plans for birth and early parenting
  • Explore income and housing options
  • Discuss partner and/or family relationships
  • Provide extra support
  • And to discover local programs for new parents

The ENHS Best Babies staff meet with you shortly after you join the program, at 4 – 6 weeks prior to delivery, and again a few weeks after the birth of your child.
